REPORT FROM PHUKET
BOAT SHOW
PIMEX got 2010
off to a flying start for us. We had seven boats at the
show at the Royal Phuket Marina in Phuket, by far the
largest number…and it paid off.
There was
considerably more interest this year than in 2008 in our
line-up. It wouldn’t have been too hard, mind you, with
a Pershing 80’, a Pershing 72’ and a Ferretti 881RPH all
lined up together. What a sight!! Add a Jeanneau
Yacht 53 and Jeanneau 50DS Performance, both of which
attracted great attention, plus a Riviera 43 Offshore
Express and a Crownline 220LS Bowrider on the
boardwalk, and customers and “tire kickers” alike had
plenty to feast their eyes on.
Now in its
seventh year—Lee Marine has been there from the
start—PIMEX had a new look and format this year which
seemed to go over well.
How Did We Do?
Pretty well, actually. We cannot divulge what we
sold to whom yet, although the ink has dried on a large
boat contract, but we can tell you that several
good sales and strong enquiries accross the
range was the result. This shows the value of going
the extra meter to put our boats on the water
and to do sea trials [ we did two, everyone else
did none ]
We believe by giving PIMEX such
wholehearted support we will help it grow and become one
of the regions most sought after boat shows. And oh, by
the way, supermodel Naomi Campbell had a guided tour
around the Pershing 80’ while here with her Russian
billionaire boyfriend. Naomi didn’t buy anything.
Some Observations.
Josh Lee, Lee Marine
Our aim has been to grow PIMEX through strong
commitment. This year was the biggest in our seven years
of exhibiting. We are very pleased with the outcome both
in terms of potential sales and the reaction of all
those who took time to look at our boats. The PIMEX
organizers are to be congratulated. Roll on to even
bigger and better things next year.
Martin Holmes, Lee
Marine.
The potential buyers seemed to be more serious at
PIMEX this year. It may have been the prices, the timing
after Christmas, a new wave of people coming to live on
Phuket, the amount of boats on show. Whatever the
reasons, we felt this show was a very positive sign for
the future.
Denis Quartier, Jeanneau Asia Pacific,
Shanghai, China.
Much more professional: more boats, less “real
estate” stands. Lee
Marine contributed to the success through its seven boat
stands. Next year I would like to see at least one
Prestige motor yacht at the show [Prestige is a brand
owned by Jeanneau.] I was very happy with the way Lee
Marine handled our sailboats [a Jeanneau 53 and Jeanneau
50]. As a general comment I think the circulation on the
pontoons could be improved as well as on the dock
[something for the PIMEX organizers to note.]
Alessandro Diomedi,
Pershing.
Pershing’s New Market Development manager, who also
attended the show from the company’s base in Italy,
Alessandro Diomedi added: “ We were really pleased with
the outcome from our participation. We met several
interesting prospects who were mainly interested with
the models of the higher range. I believe this was due
to a number of factors. First, a more suitable timing in
January with many residents and regular visitors still
here on holiday; a location that delivers a stronger
message to potential buyers about lifestyle on the
island and a higher level of organization reached by our
dealers Lee Marine on display with the largest and
newest models from Pershing and Ferretti Yachts.
What’s Up Next?
As American talk show host Oprah Whinfrey once
exclaimed: “There’s so much to talk
about.”
The Singapore event to welcome
Asia’s first Pershing 80’ last November proved very
useful in promoting Lee Marine at a very high end of the
market. We are contemplating similar types of events in
Thailand later in the year.
Our new website
http://www.leemarine.net/ will
be an important marketing and information tool for you,
the customers and subscribers to stay up to date with
developments. We are increasing our public relations
activity to bring you more targeted information about
our services, products and general
information.
Of course our service
department, by far the largest in Thailand and growing,
wants to introduce new innovations such as the new
incident reporting process to better service customers
for warranty and non-warranty concerns. Josh will be
attending most of the major European boat shows again
this year to not only pick up new customers, but to
observe the trends and test the wind on where the
industry is heading. Are we climbing out of the
recession more quickly than anticipated? Hopefully
PIMEX’s success this year was a portent of things to
come.
